The name of the Association originates from Jamin, a village parish located near Sztabin in the August\u00f3w county, where its members began their voluntary work on the parish\u2019s oldest vital records. To achieve its statutory goals, the Association uses its own funds, volunteer work, and social funding. The area of our interest is the broadly understood Suwa\u0142ki region within its historical boundaries, covering areas of northeastern Poland, southern Lithuania, and northwestern Belarus, as well as the borderlands of this region. For centuries, this area has been a cultural melting pot, and thus we do not limit ourselves solely to promoting culture related to the Catholic faith. We are interested in Uniates, Lutherans, Orthodox, Old Believers, and Jews. All these cultures existed in the same area, intermingled, and were subject to strong interactions.<\/p>\n<p>We pursue our goals through several main activities:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Indexing of vital records from parishes and municipalities<\/li>\n<li>Indexing of population registers<\/li>\n<li>Commemorating places significant to the region's history<\/li>\n<li>Publishing books of a genealogical nature and those cultivating local culture<\/li>\n<li>Organizing events that promote local history and our activities in this area.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h4>How We Restore and Protect the Memory of Polish Jewish History<\/h4>\n<p>For centuries, Podlasie constituted a space where many cultures met; Jews also lived here for years, and the JZI recalls and protects their memory by introducing the topic into social dialogue and the digital space (social media) \u2013 primarily carrying out educational activities through:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li class=\"translation-block\">publication and popularization of Jewish memorial books: <a href=\"https:\/\/jzi.org.pl\/en\/sklep\/\" target=\"_self\">JZI online store<\/a>, placing them on the general literature market, as well as on the Internet and in the media: <a href=\"https:\/\/tiny.pl\/wtwrn\" target=\"_self\">JZI Facebook<\/a><\/li>\n<li class=\"translation-block\">bringing closer the history of Jewish communities through, among others, the indexing and publication of vital records from the region (e.g., <a href=\"https:\/\/tiny.pl\/wt9sm\" target=\"_self\">JZI post<\/a>); database on the website and in <a href=\"https:\/\/jzi.org.pl\/en\/geneo\/\" target=\"_self\">the Geneo search engine<\/a><\/li>\n<li class=\"translation-block\">publication of articles on Jewish topics: <a href=\"https:\/\/jzi.org.pl\/en\/category\/ludzie\/zydzi\/\" target=\"_self\">articles from the category: Jews<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The results of the indexing work and other information are publicly and freely available in the above-mentioned sources.<\/p>\n<p class=\"translation-block\">In March 2021, JZI launched a promotional campaign combined with fundraising for the publication of the August\u00f3w Jews Memorial Book (KP\u017bA) on public portals: mainly wspieram.to and Facebook, and through personal contact (mainly local government and cultural institutions). The campaign mobilized a wide audience, reaching recipients across Poland and abroad (including the USA, UK, Germany, France, and Canada). A description of the project and an actively reported campaign progress are available here: <a href=\"https:\/\/jzi.org.pl\/en\/ksiega-pamieci-zydow-augustowskich\/\" target=\"_self\"> JZI website<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/tiny.pl\/wtwrv\" target=\"_self\">wspieram.to<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/tiny.pl\/wtccw\" target=\"_self\">fb JZI<\/a>. As part of the promotion, the following were created:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>a reward system for support \u2013 including: a guided trip \"Following the Traces of Warsaw Jews,\" the publication of a collector's album \"August\u00f3w. History Recorded in Photographs\" in memory of Judel Rotsztejn<\/li>\n<li class=\"translation-block\">auctions on allegro.pl of 10 copies of the book <a href=\"https:\/\/jzi.org.pl\/en\/2022\/02\/03\/ludzie-wielkich-marzen\/\" target=\"_self\">\"Men of Bold Vision<\/a>, specially published for this purpose<\/li>\n<li>filmy:\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/tiny.pl\/wtwrf\">Podr\u00f3\u017c do Augustowa<\/a><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/tiny.pl\/wtw97\">Ksi\u0119ga pami\u0119ci \u017byd\u00f3w augustowskich (PL)<\/a><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/tiny.pl\/wtwr1\">Ludzie wielkich marze\u0144<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h4>Achievements in Restoring the Memory of Polish Jewish History<\/h4>\n<p>Publication, sales, and promotion of the following:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/jzi.org.pl\/en\/product\/ksiega-pamieci-zydow-sokolskich\/\">\u201cSok\u00f3\u0142ka Jews Memorial Book\u201d (2021)<\/a><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/jzi.org.pl\/en\/product\/ksiega-pamieci-zydow-augustowskich\/\">\u201cAugust\u00f3w Jews Memorial Book\u201d (2022)<\/a><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/jzi.org.pl\/en\/product\/ludzie-wielkich-marzen\/\">\u201cMen of Bold Vision. Story of the Sokol Brothers Coat Factory\u201d (2022)<\/a><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/jzi.org.pl\/en\/product\/augustow-historia-w-zdjeciach-zapisana\/\">\u201cAugust\u00f3w. History Recorded in Photographs\u201d (2022)<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Success of the promotional campaign and public fundraising for the publication of the AJMB:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>the project was supported 121 times via wspieram.to for a total amount of 17,771 PLN; the link to the portal was shared 188 times, and the campaign page was visited over 3,100 times<\/li>\n<li>receipt of several donations from private individuals directly to the bank account<\/li>\n<li>obtaining financial support from institutions: August\u00f3w Cultural Institutions (Augustowskie Plac\u00f3wki Kultury), Sztabin Municipality Office, and August\u00f3w County Office (Starostwo Powiatowe w Augustowie)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Direct reach to interested individuals, mainly through Internet communication and social media, and the popularization of Jewish topics among Poles and Polish diaspora.
